The Big Reveal: The Owl here we come!

This year’s selection of film and TV writers for The Owl Screenwriting Workshop has

finally been revealed by the Athens Film Office, in none other than the top industry publication, Variety (see link below). And guess what? Our own Theo Papadoulakis is among them, with Indigo View’s latest TV project in development, under the working title “Placier” (“The Salesman”).

Created to help develop projects with international appeal, The Owl is an annual mentoring and networking workshop that connects screenwriters working outside global centers of filmmaking with top-tier decision-makers in the international audiovisual scene. Participants are selected from a diverse range of backgrounds, with audience-driven projects in development, combining artistic vision, commercial potential and adaptability to be produced and/or shot in Greece. Judging is based on the writers’ track-record, originality, overall writing quality and concept marketability.

Now in its second year, a group of 10 film and TV professionals joins The Owl for an intensive 3-day workshop held in Athens in November, followed by an online session in February. In September 2024, participants will be invited to return to Athens to pitch their project during a two-day market event attended by studio representatives, producers, broadcasters and platforms from across Europe and the US.

During the course of the programme, writers will have the chance to showcase their work and network with influential industry representatives, attend masterclasses, panel talks and tutorials on how to succeed in the fast-changing global film and TV industries, and benefit from one-on-one mentoring.

This year’s mentors include Dave Clarke (CBS International executive and former ITV Head of Scripted Acquisitions), Peter Carlton (Warp Film CEO and former Film4 executive), screenwriter and showrunner Marianne Wendt of Netflix’s “New Heights”, and Marc Lorber (former SVP of International Coproductions at Lionsgate).

Participating with a film project are Kamal John Iskander (U.S.A.), Olga Malea (Greece), Giulio Rizzo (Italy), Lucas Rinker (Germany) and Meredith Vuchnich (Canada).

Participants with a TV project include Martynas Mendelis and Domante Urmonaite (Lithuania), Wiktor Piatowski (Poland), Laura Good (Canada), Athena Xenidou and Theo Papadoulakis (Greece).

We wish them all congratulations on their selection and all the best for an exciting year ahead!
